  • Résumé : "The Jolliest School of All" by Angela Brazil is a captivating tale set in the picturesque backdrop of Italy, where the protagonist, Irene Beverley, embarks on a new chapter of her life. The story begins with the Beverley family receiving unexpected news that they will be moving to Naples due to Mr. Beverley's work assignment. Irene, thrilled at the prospect of leaving her dreary school in London, is excited to join the Villa Camellia, a boarding school for English-speaking girls. The narrative follows Irene's journey as she navigates the challenges and adventures of her new environment. Upon arrival, Irene is introduced to a diverse group of girls, each with distinct personalities and backgrounds. She quickly learns about the school's cultural integration, which blends British and American traditions, and the importance of upholding Anglo-Saxon values in a foreign land. Irene's initial days are marked by a mix of excitement and apprehension as she tries to fit in and make friends. Her encounter with Peachy Proctor, a lively and friendly girl, marks the beginning of a significant friendship. Peachy, along with her group of friends, introduces Irene to the school's social dynamics and unwritten rules. As Irene becomes more integrated into the school community, she discovers a secret society among the students, which adds an element of intrigue to her school life. The story beautifully captures the essence of friendship, loyalty, and the spirit of adventure as Irene and her friends explore the enchanting surroundings of the Villa Camellia. Through her experiences, Irene learns valuable lessons about cultural diversity, acceptance, and the importance of staying true to oneself. Angela Brazil's narrative is a delightful blend of humor, warmth, and insight, making "The Jolliest School of All" a timeless classic that resonates with readers of all ages.
