- Résumé : "The Manor House School" by Angela Brazil is a captivating tale set in an old Elizabethan manor, temporarily transformed into a school due to urgent repairs needed at Winterburn Lodge. The story follows the adventures of Lindsay Hepburn and Cicely Chalmers, two inseparable friends who are intrigued by the manor's history and the mystery surrounding a hidden treasure. The manor, owned by Monica Courtenay, is steeped in history and rumored to contain a concealed fortune left by her eccentric great-uncle, Sir Giles Courtenay. Despite Monica's efforts, the treasure remains undiscovered, prompting Lindsay and Cicely to embark on their own secret search. Their quest is filled with challenges, including the watchful eyes of Mrs. Wilson, the housekeeper, who seems to have her own secrets. The girls navigate through the manor's hidden passages and attics, driven by the hope of helping Monica reclaim her rightful inheritance. Alongside their treasure hunt, the story captures the essence of school life, friendships, and the enchanting allure of the countryside. The narrative is rich with descriptions of the manor's gardens, the village of Haversleigh, and the camaraderie among the students, making it a delightful read for those who enjoy a blend of mystery and school adventures.
