Résumé :
Drawing from the concrete and everyday realities of his compatriots in the Horn of Africa, Abdourahman explores the possibility of forging an alternative mode of existence, one more consonant with the ideals of humanity. Building upon his incisive treatment of Le Portrait du Nouvel être, a work that has all the qualities of a modern classic, and subsequently L'exil, une autre souffrance (both rendered into English and Somali), he now expands the scope of his inquiry.
In this book, Djiboutian and Somali Woman: Characteristics and Sacrifices, the author casts a steady light upon the Djiboutian and Somali woman, whose uniqueness remains elusive, imperceptible even to those closest to her. Invisible, she escapes the gaze of the people for whom she sacrifices herself. Endowed with a strong spirit, she embodies a rare form of wisdom, seeking neither limelight nor gratitude, but only the truth of right action.
This text seeks to illuminate the decisive role this woman plays in her community, for her vital contribution remains profoundly overlooked. Determined to dispel this obscurity and restore her to the prominence she deserves, the author draws her out of invisibility. He does so with scrupulous precision, free of undue emphasis, yet with a tender gravity that pays tribute without flattery and reveals without betrayal. - Biographie : Abdourahman Barkat God, born in 1966 in Djibouti, first taught as a primary school teacher, then, after obtaining a DEA (postgraduate diploma) in 2003, as a French teacher at the Lycée d'État de Djibouti. He obtained his doctorate in literature in 2010, and then worked in the language department of the Centre d'études et de recherche de Djibouti (CERD).
