Résumé :
Where Africa meets Europe across a narrow strait, Tangier has always belonged to those who came to reinvent themselves along its shore. Tangier Tangerine moves through the city's past and present, tracing the writers, artists, and musicians who made it iconic, from Paul Bowles composing his North African tales in its cafes to the palette Yves Saint Laurent discovered in its light, and through the neighborhoods, from the Grand Socco's chaos to the Kasbah's quiet overlook, that still set its rhythm.
Written by Souleiman Berrada, secretary of the Foundation for Photography in Tangier since 2022, whose deep ties across the city open doors rarely seen, the volume also steps inside the homes of the designers, curators, and antique dealers who have shaped Tangier's private style. Drawing on personal contacts and photographs shared by residents themselves, it offers an uncommon vantage on a place most only pass through.
Given Prosper Assouline's own Moroccan roots, this title carries a personal resonance within the Assouline collection. To the traveler seeking a slower, less obvious itinerary than Marrakech's, Tangier Tangerine ushers travelers into the city's most private rooms, revealing a Tangier shaped as much by those who live there now as by the legends who once passed through. - Biographie : Souleiman Berrada is a Moroccan writer. Following his studies in literature, he published in France his debut novel, Le Baigneur, in 2025. That same April, he was the youngest author chosen to represent Morocco at the Paris Book Fair. Since 2022, he has served as secretary of the Foundation for Photography in Tangier.
