Résumé :
Where the dunes of the Egyptian desert reach the turquoise waters of the Red Sea lies El Gouna, meaning “the lagoon,” a beautiful coastal town where graceful waterways meet thoughtful architecture, coming together in a setting that feels serene and effortlessly livable throughout the year. Since the first villas rose along its marina 36 years ago, El Gouna has grown steadily into a sustainable, cosmopolitan town, one that draws residents and visitors from around the world in search of something quieter: mornings spent swimming in calm lagoons, afternoons wandering between pastel facades, evenings unhurried and full of light. It is a town built on ease rather than excess, offering visitors and residents alike a rare kind of freedom found in few other places on the Red Sea.
Written by luxury travel journalist and editor Maria Shollenberger, with stunning photography by London-based photographer Felix Speller and illustrations by Greek artist Athan Mytilinaios, the title illustrates the town’s unique blend of luxury, community, and freedom. From elegant hotels and lively waterfront to its distinct cultural life, El Gouna: The Red Sea Riviera offers readers an intimate portrait of a well-designed, year-round vibrant town, and the life that has taken root within it. -
Biographie :
Maria Shollenbarger, the veteran travel writer and editor of the Financial Times magazine HTSI, traveled to El Gouna to report on her findings and document the way of life in this peaceful desert oasis. Having roamed the streets of the city and chatted with locals, she paints a picture of a town that’s going to be high up on anyone’s list of destinations.
Felix Speller is a London-based photographer specialising in architecture, design and interiors, working with leading designers, brands and cultural institutions internationally. His practice is defined by a precise and considered visual language, shaped by a fine-art background and an enduring interest in the relationship between form, space and light. Working across Europe, the United States and internationally, Felix creates quietly refined imagery that foregrounds materiality, atmosphere and spatial clarity within design-led environments. His work has been regularly published in titles including Architectural Digest, Elle Decoration, Wallpaper* and the Financial Times.
Athan Mytilinaios is a Greek artist and creative director who bridges art, design, and branding by exploring how Mediterranean heritage, mythology, and craftsmanship can speak to contemporary audiences. After over a decade working at luxury houses including Celine, Loewe, and Dolce & Gabbana, he now pursues an independent practice combining artistic sensibility with deep brand expertise, collaborating with institutions like Assouline, LVMH, and Rubelli while maintaining a parallel exhibition practice. His work, spanning sculpture, editorial projects, and immersive environments, has been featured in Architectural Digest, Monocle, and Harper’s Bazaar, and he currently serves as Art Director for Hemmerle, the Munich-based jewellery house.
