  • Résumé : "Star Born" by Andre Norton is a science fiction narrative that intertwines the destinies of two distinct groups on the planet Astra. The story follows Dalgard Nordis, a descendant of Terran colonists, and his merman companion, Sssuri, as they explore the remnants of a once-great civilization. The colonists, who fled political persecution on Terra, have adapted to their new world, forming alliances with the native mermen. Dalgard and Sssuri embark on a journey to investigate rumors of the return of "Those Others," the original inhabitants of Astra, who are believed to have left behind dangerous knowledge and technology. As they traverse the landscape, they encounter signs of recent activity, suggesting that the ancient enemies may be attempting to reclaim their lost power. Simultaneously, the narrative introduces Raf Kurbi, a pilot aboard the exploration ship RS 10, which has successfully reached Astra after a perilous journey through space. The crew, eager to explore the new world, discovers evidence of advanced cities, sparking curiosity and concern about the inhabitants' intentions. Raf is tasked with assembling a small exploration flyer to investigate further, while grappling with the implications of encountering a potentially hostile civilization. The novel explores themes of survival, adaptation, and the ethical dilemmas of rediscovering lost technologies. As Dalgard and Raf's paths converge, they must navigate the complexities of interspecies communication and the potential threat posed by the resurgence of Those Others. Norton's narrative weaves a tale of exploration and discovery, highlighting the challenges and responsibilities that come with uncovering the past.
