Résumé :
What makes a home truly remarkable? Rarely a single thing. It is the layering of architecture and memory, of ownership and time, that endures beyond its walls. Built on centuries of prestige and relationships, the Sotheby’s International Realty brand’s unparalleled legacy is a true testament to this, now beautifully rendered in print. Sotheby’s International Realty: The Art of Refined Living offers an intimate window into a curated selection of the extraordinary properties the brand has represented over its fifty-year history, while celebrating the lives lived within them.
Penned by American writer Gay Gassmann, with prefaces by Philip A. White Jr., president and CEO of Sotheby’s International Realty, and Charles F. Stewart, CEO of Sotheby’s, the book chronicles some of the most storied addresses showcased by Sotheby’s International Realty since it opened its doors in 1976. From the modest, blue-shuttered cottage called La Pitchoune (or “La Peetch”), which Julia Child and her husband, Paul, built as a creative retreat, to the masterpiece of modern architecture that is the Kaufmann Desert House, designed by famed architect Richard Neutra in Palm Springs, this volume celebrates remarkable homes and the discerning eye that knew how to find them. In its pages, Sotheby’s International Realty: The Art of Refined Living embodies the brand’s spirit of elevation and ambition, which helped set a new standard for how extraordinary properties are presented. - Biographie : Gay Gassmann is an editor, journalist, and writer. She served as the art editor for T: The New York Times Style Magazine and writes for Condé Nast publications, including Architectural Digest, ELLE DECOR, Vogue Arabia, Numéro New York, and The World of Interiors, among others. She holds a BA in art history from the American University of Paris and a master’s degree in the history of the decorative arts from the Cooper Hewitt/ Parsons School of Design.
