  • Résumé : This comprehensive work provides detailed biographical accounts of the first twelve Roman emperors, from Julius Caesar to Domitian. It meticulously covers their early lives, political careers, military campaigns (including the Gallic, Civil, and foreign wars), administrative reforms, and personal characters. The text delves into their rise to power, consolidation of the Roman state, family lives, vices, and the circumstances surrounding their downfalls and assassinations. It offers critical insights into Roman society, politics, and military practices during the late Roman Republic and early Empire, highlighting key events, public works, legal changes, and the turbulent transitions of power, including the Year of the Four Emperors. The narrative also touches upon their literary pursuits, engagement with omens, and the broader historical and cultural context of their reigns.
  • Biographie : aius Suetonius Tranquillus (Latin: [ˈɡaːiʊs sweːˈtoːniʊs traŋˈkᶣɪlːʊs]), commonly referred to as Suetonius (/swɪˈtoʊniəs/ swih-TOH-nee-əs; c. AD 69 - after AD 122),[2] was a Roman historian who wrote during the early Imperial era of the Roman Empire. His most important surviving work is De vita Caesarum, commonly known in English as The Twelve Caesars, a set of biographies of 12 successive Roman rulers from Julius Caesar to Domitian. Other works by Suetonius concerned the daily life of Rome, politics, oratory, and the lives of famous writers, including poets, historians, and grammarians. A few of these books have partially survived, but many have been lost.
