- Résumé : "The Boy Scouts for Uncle Sam" by John Henry Goldfrap follows the thrilling adventures of the Eagle Patrol, a group of resourceful Boy Scouts led by Rob Blake. The story begins with the Scouts returning home from a successful mission, only to be quickly drawn into a new adventure. They are approached by Ensign Daniel Hargreaves of the United States Navy, who, along with Lieutenant Duvall, enlists their help in guarding a secret submarine, the "Peacemaker," off the coast of South Carolina. The submarine is of great interest to foreign spies, and the Scouts' mission is to ensure its safety during testing. The Scouts embark on their journey aboard the U.S. Derelict Destroyer Seneca, heading south. Along the way, they encounter an abandoned derelict ship, the "Good Hope," which holds a mysterious past. Onboard, they discover the skeleton of the ship's captain and a cryptic message that hints at a hidden treasure of mammoth ivory. As they explore the derelict, a dense fog rolls in, leaving them stranded and unable to return to the Seneca. The situation becomes dire when a fire breaks out in the hold of the Good Hope, threatening to consume the ship. The Scouts, along with Ensign Hargreaves, must use their wits and training to survive the ordeal. Despite the challenges, the Scouts remain determined and resourceful, embodying the spirit of adventure and teamwork that defines their patrol.
