- Biographie : Né le 28 juin 1867 au lieu-dit Le Chaos, près d'Agrigente, en Sicile, Luigi Pirandello obtient de son père, administrateur de soufrières, de faire des études de lettres qui le mènent de Palerme à Rome et de Rome à Bonn. Revenu en Italie, il se mêle aux milieux littéraires de la capitale, écrit des nouvelles, des romans et connaît son premier grand succès avec Feu Mathias Pascal (1904). C'est le théâtre, cependant, qui lui apporte une célébrité d'abord nationale, puis internationale, dans les premières années de l'après-guerre. Pirandello ne cesse de composer dès lors des pièces et des oeuvres en prose qui lui valent d'être élu membre de l'Académie Royale d'Italie en 1929 et de recevoir le prix Nobel de littérature en 1934. Il meurt en 1936.
