  • Résumé : "Roy Blakeley's Camp on Wheels" by Percy Keese Fitzhugh is a humorous and adventurous tale centered around a group of boy scouts who find themselves in an unexpected situation. The story begins with the scouts losing their meeting place at the local church due to a new club's need for the space. Mr. John Temple, a benefactor of the scouts, offers them an old railroad car from Brewster's Centre to use as a temporary meeting place. The scouts are thrilled with the idea and plan to move the car to Bridgeboro. However, due to a mix-up, the car is mistakenly transported to Ridgeboro, a small town in New York, instead of their intended destination. The scouts, led by Roy Blakeley, decide to make the best of the situation. They explore their new surroundings and discover a nearby town called Skiddyunk. In Skiddyunk, they encounter a local newspaper editor, Mr. Tarkin, who enlists their help in delivering newspapers due to a local delivery boy's strike. In exchange, Mr. Tarkin helps them advertise a movie show they plan to host in the railroad car to raise funds. The scouts' antics, particularly those of Pee-wee Harris, provide much amusement as they navigate their unexpected adventure. Throughout the story, the scouts demonstrate resourcefulness, camaraderie, and a positive attitude, embodying the spirit of scouting. Their adventure is filled with humorous incidents, including Pee-wee's encounter with a group of campfire girls and his determination to prove the capabilities of scouts. The narrative captures the essence of youthful adventure and the ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances with creativity and humor.
