  • Biographie : Delia Morris

    Born in Stafford, England, 30/8/1941
1964 M.A. Honours (Oxon.) Modern Languages, French & German
1973 M.A. Regional Studies (Africa), School of Oriental & African Studies, London
After fifteen years in the teaching profession in England, largely in technical colleges or teaching English as a second language, and several years as joint director of a “primitive” art gallery in London, Delia Morris came to live in France with her husband and three sons in 1983. She worked with an international music firm in Arles until 2001, when she moved to Marseille, a city she finds intensely exciting. A constant source of inspiration has been her love of travel (to the US, Spain, Italy, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Australia, Mayotte…), with special emphasis on the islands close to Marseille (Frioul, Corsica, Sardinia).
Delia came to translation through her career in music and still works with musicians and record producers, mainly in the field of jazz. She also chooses to work with poets such as André Ughetto, Geneviève Liautard, Joël-Claude Meffre … whilst constantly broadening her knowledge in her favourite areas. Each meeting with an artist or writer is a personal enrichment for her.
Her most recent translations feature the work of 2 American poets in particular: Sam Hamill and Jane Hirshfield, whilst in the field of art, she translates work for Hannes Schüpbach, Benoît and Bo, Haythem Zakaria and others.
