- Biographie : John Buchan (1875.1940) was a Scottish novelist, historian, and statesman whose career bridged literature and public service. Born in Perth, Scotland, Buchan was educated at Glasgow and Oxford, where he developed a passion for storytelling and historical research. He first gained fame as the author of adventure classics such as « The Thirty-Nine Steps », but his literary output spanned historical fiction, biography, and essays. Buchans public life was equally distinguished. He served as a government official during the Boer War and the First World War, playing a pivotal role as Director of Intelligence and Information for the British War Cabinet. Later, he entered Parliament and was appointed Governor General of Canada, where he promoted national unity and cultural understanding during a period of global upheaval. In « Memory Hold-the-Door », Buchan offers readers a window into the personal experiences and philosophical convictions that shaped his approach to both literature and leadership.
