Biographie : Né en 1828 à Isnaïa Poliana, dans la province de Toula, Léon Tolstoï partagea sa vie entre l'exploitation de son domaine familial, de nombreux voyages en Europe et la littérature. La Guerre et la Paix, paru en 1867, remporta un immense succès, confirmé par la publication d'Anna Karénine (1875-1877). Dans les dernières années de sa vie, son activité philanthropique et sociale va de pair avec ses oeuvres pédagogiques et philosophico-religieuses. Il est mort en 1910.
