- Résumé : Kalahari is a compilation of short stories set in the ever-changing environment of post-apartheid South Africa. Wojciech's irony and wicked sense of humor reveal the darker aspects of life. Authentic imagery and a sharp eye for observation - born of his own experiences - cross racial barriers and divisions to reach the essence. Kalahari gives us a sense of the timelessness and cultural richness of Albinski's prose.Wojciech Albinski shares with us his long African experience. He draws what he relates from his own fascinating life - which is why we believe him. The beautiful language and vivid style of this book enhance its value.- Ryszard KapuscinskiWojciech Albinski debuted late, but astonishingly so, with a remarkably mature prose. Kalahari is a book sophisticated in form and rich in content. Full of valuable insights, it transports us to the antipodes, where the oceans meet the Cape of Good Hope and Table Mountain.- Marek Nowakowski
- Biographie : Wojciech Waclaw Albinski was born in Wlochy, near Warsaw, Poland, in 1935. During World War II, he lost his father. In the 1950s, he wrote essays and poems for Wspólczesnosc and later for Kultura, a literary magazine in Paris. After graduating from Warsaw Polytechnic, he moved to Iraq and then to Paris. He finally settled in Geneva, Switzerland, for eight years with his wife, Wanda. They later moved to Botswana and South Africa, where he spent most of his life. His first book, Kalahari, was followed by others such as Achtung Banditen. These works became bestsellers and were nominated for and won various awards, including the Mackiewicz, Nike, Gdynia, and Wroclaw prizes. Wojciech was buried in his family grave at Powazki Cemetery in Warsaw in 2015.
