- Résumé : Gustave Fayet (1865-1925) stands out as one of the most distinctive figures on the French art scene at the turn of the 20th century. Unjustly forgotten, this art connoisseur and major collector also proved to be a passionate designer and entrepreneur who found his calling in the decorative arts. His multifaceted oeuvre defies categorization : Fayet was at once a painter, ceramicist, interior designer, and creator of fabrics, wallpapers, and illustrated books, as well as having interests in a fashion house and launching a workshop producing carpets based on his designs. His singular floral vocabulary, characterized by an unapologetic taste for the fantastical and a desire to experiment, is particularly notable. Long inaccessible, scattered, or forgotten, Fayet's works have been brought together for the first time for this major exhibition dedicated to him by the Fondation Louis Vuitton. They bring to light a free and modern creative vitality, in which color, motif, and innovation engage in a dialogue with the major artistic movements of the time, revealing a previously unknown body of work. This volume is complemented by the catalogue Gustave Fayet Collector.
