Biographie : Frances Elisa Hodges Burnett est née le 24 novembre 1849, à Manchester (Grande-Bretagne). À l'âge de 16 ans, elle suit sa famille qui se fixe aux États-Unis. Elle se rend populaire dans ce pays en écrivant des livres pour enfants. Mais c'est "Le Petit Lord Fauntleroy" qui lui apporte le succès (c'est son fils qui lui servit de modèle pour le personnage du petit lord). Par la suite, elle publia de très nombreux romans tant pour adultes que pour enfants. Frances Elisa Hodges Burnett est morte à Knoxville, Tennessee (États-Unis), le 29 octobre 1924.
