A Kingdom of Cottages

Set off for the stately and scenic surroundings of around fifty holiday cottages associated with the British Crown, yet available for rent to the general public. This photojournalistic journey tours the British Isles – from the Scottish Highlands to deepest Cornwall – and beyond the realm, to a remote valley in Transylvania.

Katrin Unger is a Berlin-based photographer. She studied geography at the University of Dresden, and her work as a human-centred design consultant and entrepreneur has since taken her to Brazil, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ireland and South Africa. Unger explores photography with different
cultures and communities, and she undertook formal training at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin. It had long been her dream to travel the length of Great Britain, from Land’s End to John o’Groats – a journey she made for this book.
