- Résumé : Ethiopia won the 2017 UN award for outstanding performance in targeted promotion, facilitation and execution of sustainable investment projects and the 2017 Star Reformer Award from the World Bank Group for its outstanding performance on investment policy reform and promotion. Among the reasons for this success is the existence of suitable legal environment. Bilateral Investment Treaties in general and specifically its dispute settlement is taken as good mechanisms of promoting investment in Ethiopia. Investor-State Arbitration, one of the recognized investment dispute settlement mechanisms, is, however, recently being criticized for it undermines host states' sovereignty and regulatory power. While many countries have revisited their Bilateral Investment Treaties, Ethiopia is silent so far.
