Although the site of Domme has yielded many prehistoric remains, its history, properly speaking, begins with the construction, in the 11th or 12th century, of a fortified castle at the western end of the rock. In 1214, Simon de Montfort, heading the Albigensian Crusade, arrived at the foot of this castle ; as is told by his contemporary, Pierre des Vaux de Cernay, the castle "occupied a strong position on a promontory overlooking the valley of the Dordogne. It was empty and undefended.
Biographie : RENAUD Michel : holds a Masters in Philosophy is the founder of the Editions Fragile, has collaborated in most of the works as Chief Editor and Director of Publication. He has participated more particularly in the writing of several books (Brief History of Fortified Castles, Brief History of the Hundred Years’ War etc).
STÉFANON Laurence : history teacher, well-known expert on Renaissance and Classical Architecture, she has specialised in the reconstitution of synthetic images of many buildings including medieval ones. She is also an excellent drawer.
